United States Senate voted not to ratify a Treaty from the United Nations that would guarantee the rights of individuals with disabilities in a manner consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended. Despite bipartisan support in the Senate, support from the United States Chamber of Commerce, and a personal plea from retired U.S. Senator Robert Dole who helped to enact the Americans with Disabilities Act, the U.S. Senate did not have the two thirds majority vote to ratify this Treaty. We can be especially proud of Connecticut’s two Senators who voted to ratify the Treaty.
